About the Event

The event was an Engineering summit and a launch of ELP hosted at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Critical in the discussions was to also engage with engineers on the realities of Energy crisis in South Africa, whilst also attending to the challenges of reduced petroleum refining capacity in South Africa. Further to this there was also a great deal of finding solutions to revamp rail industry as a backbone to support the development of South Africa and beyond.

Ernest Ngubo

Electrical Engineer, Entrepreneur and Director of various Companies More than 30 years experience in various industry sectors viz built environment, telecommunications, petrochemical, electronics manufacturing. Currently involved in the Merger and Acquisition Sector.

Nhlanhla Maphalala

Owner and Founder of ISIVUVU Technical Solutions

Highly qualified electrical engineer (BSc) and a Masters in Engineering Management, he has worked his way across a number of multinational companies, gaining invaluable experience and interdisciplinary skills that include strategic project management, financial management, marketing, asset and technology management.

Mphiliseni Mthimkhulu

Owner of Engabazeni Resources

A qualified electrical engineer, Mphiliseni worked for Eskom for more than 19 years. Industry leader for the past 20 years, in various fields such as Asset Management, Maintenance Management, Power System Engineering, Governance, System Operations, Reliability Centred Maintenance, Project Management, etc.

Thoba Majoka

Holder of a Mechanical Engineering

Master of Business Administration degree with 23 years of experience in the rail industry which he acquired whilst employed by Transnet Engineering. Over this period, he held various positions such as General Manager responsible for the manufacturing of freight wagons for Transnet and external clients.

Zakhele Madela

Holder of a BSc Chemical Engineering Wits University

With 25 Years Work Experience: 8 Years in Oil and Gas. 4 Years in Engineering Construction and Construction Management in EPCM versus EPC Environment. 13 Years in Power Generation Engineering Services Contracts and Business Development.

Dr Pali Lehohla

Director of Economic Modelling Academy

A Research Associate at Oxford and a Professor of Practice at the University of Johannesburg. He is the former Statistician-General of South Africa

Tumelo Gopane

Holder of a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the Vaal University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science Honors in Electrical Engineering, from the University of Pretoria. He is currently studying towards a Master of Science in Engineering Management, with the University of Leeds.

Joalane Nkosi

MD and founder PWY consulting Board member EU based Engco GroupHolder of a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA (Master of Business Administration). Experienced professional in technical operations for oil and gas facilities with over 19 years’ experience. Butcher Matutle

A familiar figure in the industry, given his long and illustrious track record at the Department of Public Works (DPW). His most recent post is that of Deputy-Director General: Inter-Governmental Coordination at DPW, where he has also acted as Director-General, Chief Operations Officer and DDG: Corporate Services.

Mesela Nhlapo

Mesela has over 20 years’ experience in manufacturing and technical business development, and is currently the CEO for Railroad Association. Mesela holds a BCom in Marketing and LLB from UNISA, with various training certificates from the institute of Directors. She also has a Certificate in the Art and Science of Negotiation Skills from the University of Witwatersrand.

Gugulethu G Xaba

Keynote Address

He is a serial entrepreneur who is also passionate about matters of socio-economic development with wide-ranging experience as a director of companies. He has sat in the board of the JSE listed company, Corwil Ltd.
