About the Event
The event was an Engineering summit and a launch of ELP hosted at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Critical in the discussions was to also engage with engineers on the realities of Energy crisis in South Africa, whilst also attending to the challenges of reduced petroleum refining capacity in South Africa. Further to this there was also a great deal of finding solutions to revamp rail industry as a backbone to support the development of South Africa and beyond.

A qualified electrical engineer (BSc UKZN, MEng UP, Henley Certificate), Mphiliseni worked for Eskom for 19 years, rising to Executive Manager of Eskom Aviation. Industry leader for 20 years, he is a registered Professional Engineer (ECSA), Certified Energy Auditor (AEE), with expertise in Asset Management, Power Systems, Governance, Maintenance, Renewables and Energy Management.

Master of Business Administration degree with 23 years of experience in the rail industry which he acquired whilst employed by Transnet Engineering. Over this period, he held various positions such as General Manager responsible for the manufacturing of freight wagons for Transnet and external clients.

Tumelo Gopane
Holder of a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the Vaal University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science Honors in Electrical Engineering, from the University of Pretoria. He is currently studying towards a Master of Science in Engineering Management, with the University of Leeds.
